Professor of Special Education
California State University, Long Beach

Dr. Jana Echevarria is a Professor of Special Education at California State University, Long Beach. Her professional experience includes elementary and secondary teaching in special education, ESL, and bilingual programs. Her research and publications focus on effective instruction for English language learners, particularly those with learning disabilities. Dr. Echevarria has written numerous journal articles and book chapters, has written and produced several videotapes, and has co-authored two textbooks. Through a seven-year research study, Dr. Echevarria co-developed the SIOP Model of instruction for English learners now used in schools in all 50 states and in several countries. She is a member of NCLD's professional advisory board.
